Walsenburg, Colorado

Just a quick stop in Walsenburg, Colorado, on my way to the Sand Dunes. After so much driving through flat states I have dearly missed mountains. I am biased, Colorado is the best state.

I’ll recap a little on Santa Fe, with pictures, later.

Other words for “Awesome?”

I do enjoy the word “Awesome,” extremely so. But, I should expand my vocabulary a little in that direction. What words do you use?

Tell me! Comment below with some new awesome words for me to use in my awesome conversations with awesome people. :)

Recapping (Roswell to Albuquerque)

Roswell was cool. I stayed a night at Jeff’s from couchsurfing.com. He took me in with very short notice and was a gracious host. I chilled at his house while he went out for a bit and then we chatted for a while when he got back. He’s an awesome conversationalist and we talked about traveling, relationships, his experiences with teaching english in Taiwan for a year and a little bit of politics. Obama!

The next day we went to breakfastlunch, at a neat Mexican restaurant, with his rad friend Priscilla. Afterwards, they took me to the Anderson Museum of Contempory Art. I’m so glad I went, that place was sweet.

Me and some intestines. :)

Jeff and Priscilla, no doubt discussing some serious artistic techniques, or not.

Air guitar in front of my favorite piece there, by Scott Green.

After the museum they took me to see a mosaic-tiled tree Priscilla got to help with, in front of their library. She said a bunch of people got to make tiles that had words, authors, titles and quotes on them.

This one seemed fitting for my blog.

*** There are plenty of pictures I’d like to share, but no time to web optimize all of them, so maybe when I’m done with this trip I’ll throw them up on a flickr account. ***

After Roswell I drove to Albuquerque. For about an hour I drove through road construction, in the rain and in the dark, that was a bit stressful. But, luckily I had my GPS (I’m stoked every time it comes in handy) and found my way to the Route 66 hostel.

The people there were nice and interested in talking about traveling and what they were planning on doing in the area. Most of the guests, I noticed, were from the east coast. One guy was “on a journey” with all his belongings and plugged in his tv on the porch. I drank a beer with them and watched kick-boxing(?). A guy from Boston, named Bob, was nice enough to explain some of the mechanics of the sport to me. I liked seeing the women fight. Bob and his friend were on a month long trip, which they said they did often and then wouldn’t talk to each other for a while once they got home. I think when I’m done with this trip I’m not going to talk to myself for a while too. Haha.

In the women’s dorm, since I was a late-comer, I got put in a top bunk. I think I’m getting old because I was a little hesitant climbing down this morning. :) I didn’t get a picture myself, of the dorm, but here is one from the internets. In the morning I had some cereal and talked to some more of the guests. It was interesting to see a couple with two kids. They said they travel 5 or 6 times a year, but this time they were working with a tighter budget (I told them about couchsurfing.com and they liked the idea). The kids seemed completely at home in the hostel, which was cool. After breakfast I did my chore (at some hostels you do a small chore before you leave), I cleaned up the coffee area, and packed up.

Now, I’m at Satellite’s Coffee, planning what to do next. I’ll let you know.

I hope I don’t have

I hope I don’t have to pee anytime soon. It’s a long way down from the top bunk. Goodnight.

Roswell, NM - Couchsurfing

I’m still in Roswell, no alien abductions yet. I met another cool person through couchsurfing.com, his name is Jeff. He’s a fellow graphic designer and I’m already diggin’ his book collection. :) I’m chilling at his house, catching up on some R&R while I plan out where I’m headed to tomorrow.

Oh yeah, Marie, I ate at a cute little restaurant named Portofino, and I ate everything on my plate. Yeah, I finished my meal. So Phtttt!

Talk to you later,
